Dermapen® is a revolutionary non-invasive treatment that can be used to improve the appearance of your skin, eliminating lines, wrinkles, scars, and hyper- or hypo-pigmentation. One treatment session typically takes about 30 to 60 minutes, with most patients experiencing immediate results. Is Dermapen® Right for You?
Dermapen® is performed through a technique called micro-needling, or skin needling. The technique's success relies on the body's ability to self-heal. Dermapen® is ideal for patients with scars from chicken pox, burns, or acne, or patients with aging skin that has uneven pigmentation.
Many patients are pleased to learn that micro-needling is sometimes effective for treating stretch marks. It can also be a successful method for improving the appearance of thin wrinkles or lines around the lips, mouth, or eyes, as well as a treatment for reducing the size of pores. Micro-needling is appropriate for all skin types and colors.
Micro-needling may not be an optimal treatment option for patients with certain medical conditions such as eczema, rosacea, scleroderma, herpes, diabetes, or psoriasis. Dr. James Lacey will review your medical history with you, and discuss your candidacy for Dermapen® treatment. He can suggest alternative treatments, if necessary.
The Procedure Details
To reduce any potential discomfort, we will first apply a numbing agent to the treatment site. Next, a technician will glide the Dermapen® device across the skin of the problem areas. The Dermapen® device injects tiny needles into the skin to create controlled, microscopic holes in the outer two layers.
One treatment session lasts about 30 to 60 minutes, depending on the area you need treated. You should notice results after your first treatment with Dermapen®, but multiple treatments are usually recommended for optimal results.
Most of the small holes are only pores, and are therefore only being temporarily widened. Your body’s natural response is to heal these injuries. As a result, collagen increases for a tighter, smoother appearance and texture.
One treatment session lasts 30 to 60 minutes, depending on the size of the treatment area. During your initial consultation, Dr. James Lacey will talk to you about potential treatment areas, and provide you with a recommendation based on your specific needs and goals.
Recovery and Results
Micro-needling is minimally invasive, and few people experience any side effects. However, some patients have reported stinging, itching, and reddening of the skin. Immediately after treatment, your skin will appear irritated and flushed, similar to a sunburn. Your skin may feel tight and tender for a few hours, but it should heal completely after 24 hours.
Dermapen® offers similar results to laser skin resurfacing or IPL™ photofacial. However, Dermapen® typically involves a shorter recovery time. You should notice results after your first treatment with Dermapen®, but multiple treatments are usually recommended for optimal results.
Typically, problem areas require five treatment sessions. It takes six to eight weeks to see your full results after your final micro-needling session. Dr. James Lacey may recommend routine treatment sessions, every six to 12 months.
